Summer Reading List

I’ve recently felt convicted of my neglegence regarding my blog and its dwindling readers. Apologies, all.

That said, I decided to tackle a post promised to you in my most recent Clearing of the Air. My good friend Jenny and I decided to make a summer reading list, because neither of us had made one is several years. To further expand both our range in read literature and the boundaries of our friendship, we made two lists: one for ourselves, one for each other. Each list held five selections specifically selected for its intended listee. My lists are as follows:

For me, from Jenny:

  1. Watership Down – Richard Adams (currently reading)
  2. The Secret Life of Bees – Sue Monk Kidd
  3. The Year of Pleasures – Elizabeth Berg
  4. Godhanger – Dick King-Smith
  5. The Cay (and, Timothy of the Cay) – Theodore Taylor

Mine, for myself:

  1. Motorcycle Diaries – Ernesto Che Guevera
  2. The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath
  3. A Wrinkle in Time – Madeline L’Engle
  4. On the Road – Jack Kerouac
  5. Slaughterhouse Five – Kurt Vonnegut

Neither of us are expected to read all ten, but at least a total of five from the combined ten. We’re both excited. And you should be too. If you can think of any better choices or care to share your list, feel free to do so in the comments. I am always open to new suggestions for reading material.
