A Blog At War
Story is the medium in which I experience the world. It’s ebb and flow throughout my life have been as evident as the prints of my fingers or my hair follicles that seem more and more eager to escape as time presses steadily onward. In the falling of leaves, muggy afternoons, moonless evenings, coffee, agony, elation, friend and foe, that stranger who won’t stop staring at you, the forest, a home-cooked meal, loneliness – I see story.

I would refer to myself as a Christian were it not for my disdain for Christendom. I think Christ would agree. I am fully immersed in the story of God and play my role as well as I know how. I try my best to be fully human, and there for fully worthy of God’s namesake. I will read and theorize, argue, forgive, make an ass of myself and call you friend with all those things considered. This is love.

I write because it is who I am. To keep me from writing would be to tell a fish he must live out the rest of his days above ground at extremely high altitudes. Too frequently, though, I am a fish who would rather climb a mountain than swim. This is why what you are reading is a blog at war. I describe this much more eloquently in my essay titled “The Writing Life.”

Pretentiousness
Some of my writing accomplishments:

  • In my short stint at Southwest Baptist University, I was a staff writer, Section Editor, Managing Editor and Editor–in-Chief of the weekly campus newspaper. These were not simultaneous jobs performed. That would have been suicide.
  • I had an articled published in an online edition of Relevant Magazine, but I couldn’t remember the title and when I went to look it up I found that Relevant had deleted it. Forever a mystery.
  • I co–founded the Everland Media Group with my friend Matt Gallion and look forward to communing with other writers there and am excited to see it’s future unfold.
  • I am currently finishing a short fiction piece for a short story collection to be out early in 2010.
  • I am also working on a novel – with no apparent sense of urgency whatsoever.

What I’d like to be doing:

  • An intense and in-depth study of sociology and linguistics and their separate influences on global community, first and third world societies, spirituality, and each other.
  • Writing as a professional hobby.
  • Seeing the world and having adventures.

Personal interests:

  • Sociology and the brilliance of human language.
  • Democratic Socialism and the destruction of wealth and, in turn, poverty
  • Philosophy and the conversations that it gives birth to.
  • Postmodern expressions in literature, film, music and the arts.

Miscellaneous:
I live alone in a house I can’t really afford. I work at Starbucks to pay what I can of the bills and have for the past three and a half years. I watch LOST and The Office habitually, as well as enjoying other television shows such as: Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Ghost Hunters, and Glee. I’ve recently taken up the hobby of
Geocaching and have fallen thoroughly in love with it. I enjoy being outdoors and being indoors in equal amounts. I mostly just enjoy being.
